In the spirit of celebrating the 50th anniversary of the liberation of Hue City (March 26, 1975 – March 26, 2025), which is also the first year Hue has been officially recognized as the 6th centrally governed city of Vietnam,
Following the success of 7 previous scientific conferences, the Thua Thien Hue Association of Endocrinology & Diabetes (now the Hue City Association of Endocrinology & Diabetes) and the Vietnam Association of Endocrinology & Diabetes will organize the 8th Expanded Ancient Capital Scientific Conference on Endocrinology, Diabetes, and Metabolic Disorders on March 29, 2025. The event aims to celebrate these milestones while also updating colleagues nationwide on “Advances in the Treatment of Endocrinology, Diabetes, and Metabolic Disorders.”

In Vietnam, according to a 2015 survey on non-communicable disease risk factors conducted by the Ministry of Health, among people aged 18–69, the national prevalence of diabetes was 4.1% and prediabetes 3.6%. Of those with diabetes, 31.1% were diagnosed while 69.9% were undiagnosed. More recently, in 2022, the National Hospital of Endocrinology reported that over 7% of the population has diabetes. Alongside this, the prevalence of endocrine, diabetes, and metabolic disorders—classified as non-communicable diseases—has continued to rise in the disease profile, and approaches to these conditions are evolving in line with global trends.

This conference features more than 30 presentations by professors, associate professors, PhDs, and doctors from Ho Chi Minh City, Hue, Da Nang, and other regions—leading experts in endocrinology, diabetes, cardiology, and related specialties—currently working at major hospitals in Vietnam such as Hue Central Hospital, the University Medical Center Ho Chi Minh City, and Da Nang Family Hospital.

With the main theme: Advances in the Treatment of Endocrinology, Diabetes, and Metabolic Disorders, presentations focus on: updated treatment guidelines from the American Diabetes Association 2025; application of advanced insulin combination regimens or continuous glucose monitoring in diabetes management; and early management of complications including cardiovascular, renal, neurological, and diabetic foot disorders. Additionally, the conference discusses chronic kidney disease and heart failure in diabetes patients. In thyroid disease management, topics emphasize heart failure in thyrotoxicosis and “optimizing” thyroid hormone dosing. Furthermore, osteoporosis in diabetic patients and elderly men is also highlighted in clinical sessions.

The conference gathers nearly 400 doctors and healthcare workers from hospitals and medical centers in Ho Chi Minh City, Hue, Da Nang, Quang Tri, Quang Nam, as well as students from Hue University of Medicine and Pharmacy and Duy Tan University.

On this occasion, the Thua Thien Hue Association of Endocrinology & Diabetes (now the Hue City Association of Endocrinology & Diabetes) received a Certificate of Merit from the People’s Committee of Thua Thien Hue Province (now Hue City People’s Committee) for outstanding achievements in building and developing the Association.
